Reminder: Do your parents understand what you do at work? This for That wants to hear their descriptions! Please invite your mom or dad to participate - just send them this brief survey (<1 min). Make your parents proud: put their words on the internet!

For advice on how to increase your impact at work

  • First Round Capital: The 30 Best Bits of Advice We’ve Heard on Our Podcast (So Far) - brief highlights from 500 interviews over the last 8 years.

For reflecting on your life

  • How and Why to Do a Life Audit - an interesting exercise I haven’t done (yet) but probably should.

For a quote I keep thinking about

  • “My belief is that there are 5 creative hours in everyone's day. All I ask of people at Shopify is that 4 of those are channeled into the company.”

    - Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke

For a story about the value of hustle + storytelling

  • NYTimes: The Woman Who Made Van Gogh - why are some great artists famous but not others? Largely unknown at the time of his death, Van Gogh’s sister-in-law used his letters to personalize him and made his artwork recognized around the world. This untold story is about one woman’s hustle and creative packaging that succeeded on an epic scale.

For inspiration

  • She just graduated from college. She said her Uber passenger made it possible

For parents

  • Emily Oster’s ParentData newsletter - Oster is an economist who uses data to provide clear guidance to parents on everything from vaccines to sleep training to ticks and drowning and more. She helps parents understand what is and isn’t worth worrying about.

To watch

  • Netflix: Lupin (TV) - this mystery is clever and fun and each episode leaves you craving the next. Lupin is a modern interpretation of a French classic about a gentleman thief and master of disguise.

To read

  • The Anthropocene Reviewed - I’ve never read a book as informative and touching at the same time. Each, short chapter covers a specific topic - from Dr. Pepper to sunsets to air conditioning - and offers a brief history and related memoir by the author, John Green, a popular YouTuber and YA writer.

To Listen

  • Sam Altman on Ezra Klein’s podcast - an enlightening and accessible look into the future we face with AI at scale.

Opportunities

  • Director of Business Development, Labelbox - building the best products for humans to advance artificial intelligence.

  • Director of Partnerships, the Pill Club - reinventing the way that women receive health care—starting with online birth control and delivery.

  • Senior Director, Business Development, Tackle.io - helping B2B customers establish and grow their revenue streams through the hyperscale Cloud Marketplaces (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc).
